Weather Today (September 6): Heavy Rains to Drench Odisha, Coastal Andhra, Telangana, Tamil Nadu and Kerala

Wednesday (September 6) Very heavy rainfall is expected over parts of Vidarbha. Heavy rains may lash parts of Gangetic West Bengal, Odisha, Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, Madhya Maharashtra, Marathawada, Chhattisgarh, Coastal Andhra Pradesh, Yanam, Telangana, Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, Karaikal, North Interior Karnataka, Andaman and Nicobar Islands, Kerala and Mahe. Widespread rains and thunderstorms may pelt Andaman and Nicobar Islands, Gangetic West Bengal, Odisha, East Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra, Chhattisgarh, Telangana, Kerala, Mahe and Lakshadweep. Fairly widespread rain and thunderstorms may drench Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram, Tripura, Jharkhand, East Uttar Pradesh, West Madhya Pradesh, Coastal Andhra Pradesh, Yanam, Rayalaseema, Coastal Karnataka and North Interior Karnataka. Scattered showers and thunderstorms are possible over Assam, Meghalaya, Bihar, Uttarakhand, Gujarat Region and South Interior Karnataka. Isolated rains and thunderstorms have been forecast over Arunachal Pradesh, Sub-Himalayan West Bengal & Sikkim, West Uttar Pradesh, Haryana, Chandigarh, Delhi, Punjab, Himachal Pradesh, Jammu-Kashmir, Ladakh, East Rajasthan, Saurashtra, Kutch, Tamil Nadu, Puducherry and Karaikal. Thursday (September 7) Heavy downpours have been forecast over parts of Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram, Tripura, Gangetic West Bengal, Odisha, East Uttar Pradesh, East Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, Madhya Maharashtra, Marathawada, Konkan, Goa, Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, Karaikal, Andaman and Nicobar Islands, Kerala and Mahe. Widespread rains and thunderstorms are expected over Andaman and Nicobar Islands, Odisha, East Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra, Chhattisgarh, Kerala, Mahe and Lakshadweep. Fairly widespread rain with thunderstorms may soak Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram, Tripura, Jharkhand, East Uttar Pradesh, West Madhya Pradesh, Gujarat Region, Telangana, Coastal and North Interior Karnataka. Scattered showers and thunderstorms may pelt Assam, Meghalaya, Sub-Himalayan West Bengal, Sikkim, Bihar, Uttarakhand, East Rajasthan, Saurashtra, Kutch, Coastal Andhra Pradesh, Yanam, Rayalaseema and South Interior Karnataka. Isolated rainfall accompanied by thunderstorms is expected over Arunachal Pradesh, West Uttar Pradesh, Himachal Pradesh, West Rajasthan, Tamil Nadu, Puducherry and Karaikal. The western end of the monsoon trough is running along its normal position, while its eastern end lies south of its normal position. Meanwhile, a low-pressure area (LPA) lies over the Northwest and adjoining West-Central Bay of Bengal off the North Andhra Pradesh-South Odisha coasts. This system is expected to move nearly westwards across South Odisha and South Chhattisgarh during the next 24 hours. A trough extends from the above LPA's associated cyclonic circulation to Southeast Uttar Pradesh across Odisha and Chhattisgarh. Under their influence, light to moderate fairly widespread to widespread rainfall accompanied by thunderstorms, lightning and isolated heavy falls may occur over Gangetic West Bengal on September 6-7, Odisha and Jharkhand from September 6-8. Isolated very heavy downpours may pelt Gangetic West Bengal and Odisha on September 5. Light to moderate scattered to fairly widespread rains and thunderstorms with isolated heavy rainfall activity are very likely over Assam and Meghalaya from September 8-10, and Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram and Tripura from September 7-10. Meanwhile, Up to moderate isolated to scattered rains and thunderstorms with isolated heavy falls are very likely over West Uttar Pradesh on September 6, East Uttar Pradesh on September 6-7, East Rajasthan from September 7-10, and Uttarakhand from September 8-10.
Further, light to moderate fairly widespread to widespread showers accompanied by thunderstorms, lightning and isolated heavy rains are expected over Madhya Pradesh and Vidarbha from September 6-10 and over Chhattisgarh on September 6-7. Particularly, isolated very heavy rain is likely over Vidarbha on September 6. To the south, light to moderate fairly widespread to widespread rainfall with isolated heavy rains may pelt Coastal Andhra Pradesh, Yanam, Telangana and North Interior Karnataka on September 6, and over Tamil Nadu, Puducherry and Karaikal on September 6-7. Similar weather is expected over Coastal and South Interior Karnataka between September 8-10 and over Kerala and Mahe from September 6-10. Furthermore, a trough stalling along the Konkan and Malabar Coast is forecast to bring heavy rains across the west coast of the subcontinent for several days. As a result, light to moderate fairly widespread to widespread downpours with thunderstorms, lightning and isolated heavy falls are possible over Marathwada from September 6–8, Konkan and Goa from September 7-10, Madhya Maharashtra from September 6-10 and over Gujarat Region on September 8. Finally, moist westerly winds from the southern edge of the aforementioned cyclonic circulation may bring heavy showers over the Andaman and Nicobar Islands between September 6-10. As for the mercury levels, maximum temperatures will likely stay near or below normal over much of India while reaching well above normal across West and Northeast India.
