No agenda for Parl session, discuss nine issues raised by oppn: Sonia Gandhi in letter to PM Modi

In a letter addressed to Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday, Congress leader Sonia Gandhi sought a discussion on a range of issues — including the violence in Manipur and Centre-state relations — during the upcoming five-day special session of Parliament. “I must point out that this Special Session was convened without any consultation with other political parties,” the Congress leader wrote. “None of us have any idea of its agenda. All we have been communicated is that all five days have been allocated for Government business. ”Stating that the Congress “most certainly” wants to participate in the upcoming session, Sonia listed out some “matters of public concern and importance” that she hoped would be discussed. The issues listed by Sonia also included inflation, unemployment and the rise in cases of communal tension and border transgressions by China. “I earnestly hope that in a spirit of constructive cooperation, these issues will be taken up in the forthcoming special session,” she said. In a press conference, Congress general secretary Jairam Ramesh said this is the first time that no agenda has been discussed or listed in the business of the House. “We want that the upcoming session is constructive and this was decided at the meeting of the strategy group and during the meeting of INDIA parties,” Ramesh said.
